THPNC opening early 2023

The Healing Place of New Hanover County will serve individuals 18 and up from Eastern NC (28 counties within Trillium’s catchment) who require emergency overnight shelter, detox, and recovery from alcohol and/or substance abuse. The facility will serve 200 clients: 100 males and 100 females, in a long-term (6-9 month) residential recovery model. All services will be offered at no direct cost to the client.  Located on Medical Center Drive, the facility will consist of five buildings: Administration and Education, Dining and Shelter, Men’s Residential, Women’s Residential, and Detox. The site design plan can be viewed here.

Construction of The Healing Place is being funded as a capital project by New Hanover County, through loan proceeds and in compliance with its debt policy. The total project budget is $24,034,315, and the county will use, in part, its contribution to Trillium to service the annual debt for construction.

Once construction is complete, New Hanover County will own the buildings and be responsible for long-term maintenance. The Healing Place of Louisville, KY will establish a new 501(c)3 that will then fully manage and operate the facility, including all operating costs.

New Hanover County will also provide funding for 50 beds each year (25 for men, 25 for women) as part of the county’s budget.
